Music has the power to lead us back ... to the Creator of all harmony, creating a resonance within us which is like being in tune with the beauty and truth of God, with the reality which no human knowledge or philosophy can ever express. - Pope Benedict XVI
The Apostolate of Sacred Music serves our church through music at our many Liturgies. It includes our Parish Choir, Latin Schola, Resurrection Choir, Children’s Choir, instrumentals, handbells and cantors. We strive to help facilitate prayer through music for our parishioners during our many celebrations of the Liturgy.
This choir is for students in grades 2 – 8 and sings weekly at the 8:00 AM Sunday Mass and for the first Mass on Christmas Eve. The choir rehearses on Tuesday afternoon in the Choir Loft from 4:15 – 5:00 PM beginning the second week in September through May.
Ave Maria-School Choir (1608 KB)
I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light (2569 KB)
The Handbell Choir rehearses on Tuesday from 5:15 - 6:30 PM, September through May, and plays different dates throughout the year. Each member learns to play either one or two handbells, reading the music for their part, and when joined together with each member creates music that rings out in praise to God. The ability to read music or the desire to learn is all that is needed, so please consider joining this group.
The Parish Choir sings for weekend and Holy Day Masses.
The Cantor sings the Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclamation for Mass and is a member of the Parish Choir.
We sing the funeral Mass and represent the sympathy and compassion of the community of St. Catherine of Siena. Members are not required to be at every funeral, but participate as their personal schedules allow.
Although silent during Lent and Advent, Instrumentalists enrich our Liturgy during Easter and Ordinary Time. An audition is required and participation is at discretion of the Director. Rehearsal is with the Parish Choir on Wednesday evenings.

Learning to sing, to sing in chorus, is not merely an exercise of external hearing and the voice; it is also an education of inner hearing- the hearing of the heart-an exercise and an education in life and in peace. To sing together in chorus and to have all the choruses sing together demands that we pay attention to each other, to the composer, to the director, to the whole complex of music and culture. In this way, singing in chorus teaches us about life, about peace, and about walking together. - Pope Benedict XVI
