Funeral Reading Selections

- First & Second Readings: The first and second readings can be found below. Please choose your selections and include the name of the reader. Readings cannot be shared by more than one person. If you do not have anyone available to do the readings, please contact the parish office.
  
  Psalm: Please include your selection for the Psalm which is sung by the cantor. St. Catherine of Siena will provide a cantor & organist. Please complete your selections for Music throught the music selections tab.
  
  Gospel: Gospel Reading will be selected by the celebrant of the funeral mass.

  First Reading
  
  C2 – Job 19:1, 23-27a
  A reading from the Book of Job
  Job answered Bildad the Shuhite and said:
  Oh, would that my words were written down! Would that they were inscribed in a record: That with an iron chisel and with lead they were cut in the rock forever! But as for me, I know that my Vindicator lives, and that he will at last stand forth upon the dust; Whom I myself shall see: my own eyes, not another's, shall behold him; And from my flesh I shall see God; my inmost being is consumed with longing.

  C3- Wisdom 3:1-6, 9 (short version)
  A reading from the Book of Wisdom
  The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them.
  They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction.
  But they are in peace. For if before men, indeed they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality. Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them
  and found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself. Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: Because grace and mercy are with his holy ones,
  and his care is with his elect.

  A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah
  On this mountain the LORD of hosts will provide for all peoples.
  On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples,
  The web that is woven over all nations; he will destroy death forever.
  The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces;
  The reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken.
  On that day it will be said: "Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!
  This is the LORD for whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!"

  C11- Revelation 21:1-5a, 6b-7
  A reading from the Book of Revelation
  I, John, saw a new heaven and a new earth.
  The former heaven and the former earth had passed away,
  and the sea was no more. I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem,
  coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
  I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race.
  He will dwell with them, and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them as their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, for the old order has passed away."
  The One who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning, and the end. To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water. The victor will inherit these gifts, and I shall be his God, and he will be my son."

  E7 -1 Corinthians 15:20-23 (short version)
  A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians
  Brothers and sisters: Christ has been raised from the dead,
  the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
  For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead came also through man.
  For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life,
  but each one in proper order: Christ the first fruits; then, at his coming, those who belong to Christ.

  E10- 2 Corinthians 5:1, 6-10
  A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians
  Brothers and sisters:
  We know that if our earthly dwelling, a tent, should be destroyed,
  we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands,
  eternal in heaven. We are always courageous,
  although we know that while we are at home in the body
  we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.
  Yet we are courageous, and we would rather leave the body and go home to the
  Lord. Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away.
  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.

  E14- 1 John 3:1-2
  A reading from the first Letter of Saint John Beloved:
  See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God.
  Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
  Beloved, we are God's children now; what we shall be; has not yet been revealed.
  We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
